Wilson To Suit Up For Both Teams In Scrimmage

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson might have to make a minor wardrobe change during Saturday's Red-White Game, so he can go from wearing a white jersey to sporting a red one.

Coach Bobby Petrino released the rosters Thursday for the Razorbacks' final spring scrimmage, and it appears that Wilson will be taking snaps with both the Red and White teams.

Saturday night might be a final chance for Wilson to show a large crowd inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium that he's worthy of being named Arkansas' starting quarterback. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

"(The Red-White Game is) certainly another opportunity for each player to move up in the depth chart or move down in the depth chart," Petrino said Thursday morning during a Southeastern Conference coaches teleconference. "And it's a good roundup for the fans."

The Red team is made up mostly of first-team players, including tight end D.J. Williams, defensive linemen Malcolm Sheppard and Adrian Davis and wide receivers London Crawford and Joe Adams.

Sophomore Ryan Mallett, who appears to be separating himself from Wilson in the two-man race to be named Arkansas' starting quarterback, is listed on the Red team's roster.

Petrino hinted during the teleconference that Mallett will be the starter in the fall, saying that the passing game will be improved this upcoming season — thanks in part to "Ryan's arm and his ability to make those throws."

Still, Wilson is one of four players who are expected to suit up for both the Red team and White team, which is comprised mostly of backups like tight end Ben Cleveland and wide receivers Reggie Fish and Greg Childs.

Free safety Tramain Thomas, linebacker Bret Harris and defensive end Damario Ambrose are also listed as players who'll see action with both teams in the scrimmage.

"We want to see execution. We want to see competition and execution," Petrino said when asked about his expectations for the Red-White Game.

Running backs Michael Smith (hamstring surgery) and Dennis Johnson (swollen foot) were included on the Red team's roster, even though they've been limited by injuries this spring.

As expected, tight end Chris Gragg (high ankle sprain) isn't listed on either roster.
