Positions Still Up For Grabs

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas' depth chart for the season opener against Missouri State was released Monday, but it doesn't mean the preseason jockeying for starting positions has ended.

Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino said the Razorbacks still have a few things to sort out this week.

"There's a couple positions where, at the end of the competition of the whole pre-fall camp, some guys are real tight," Petrino said.

"We still have a week left to determine who is going to be the guy that gets the most reps or who steps out on the field first."

The most notable competition continues at linebacker, where no starters have been named at the weakside or middle spots.

Sophomore Jerry Franklin and freshman Terrell Williams are fighting for the job at weakside linebacker. Franklin and Wendel Davis are in consideration for the start at middle linebacker.

The punting competition also remains open between newcomers Briton Forester and Dylan Breeding. In addition, Petrino said he's waiting to make a decision between sophomore Greg Childs and senior London Crawford at the ‘X' receiver position.

"Greg had a real good camp, was ahead of (Crawford)," Petrino said. "This last scrimmage, London played a little bit better. So I think this week will determine who steps on the field first."

Crawford is one of eight seniors on Arkansas' depth chart. Ten true freshmen are listed, including Williams. But highly touted cornerback Darius Winston is not among the 10 freshmen.

Petrino said Arkansas plans to play everyone listed on the depth chart this season. Others still could earn playing time, though.

"There might be one or two that we're still looking at and seeing how things happen," Petrino said. "We're still preparing them to play. If no injuries occur, then they'll be able to redshirt."

More on Broadway

Coach Bobby Petrino indicated cornerback Ramon Broadway will not be suspended after his arrest Sunday for failure to appear.

Broadway was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 7:51 p.m. after he reportedly failed to take care of a traffic violation for no proof of insurance in Alma.

"That's always a hard one when you get a young man who is picked up and arrested for not paying a traffic ticket," Petrino said. "We got to make sure we do a better job of our guys understanding that it's their responsibility to get done. Not their parents. Not somebody else's.

"It's their responsibility to make sure it gets paid and that their business gets taken care of."

Adams Ready

Receiver Joe Adams returned to practice Monday night after missing time last week with a hamstring injury. Paul Petrino said Adams, who is listed as Arkansas' starter at the ‘W' position, could've participated in last Friday's scrimmage if needed.

"He went out and ran around early before the scrimmage the other day and did our routes, did some of the pregame (drills)," Petrino said. "Probably could've played that day. But we kept him out that day. But he'll be full go and ready to go (Monday)."

In addition, walk-on receiver Bobby Petrino, the youngest son of Arkansas' coach, was on crutches at Monday's practice.

Curtis At Fullback

Sophomore De'Anthony Curtis wasn't among the five players listed on the running back depth chart. However, Curtis is on the two-deep — at fullback. Paul Petrino said Arkansas believes Curtis, who is listed as a second-teamer behind Van Stumon, can help in certain packages after practicing well at the position.

"De'Anthony has done a nice job at fullback ..." Petrino said. "He's done a good job on the lead blocks. He's done a nice job on our outside runs, getting out on the edge and cutting people. And he's done a nice job of catching the ball out of the backfield."
