Walker Commits to Arkansas

Spring (Texas) Westerfield quarterback Jacoby Walker commits to the University of Arkansas on Monday night and will enroll in January and go through spring practice with the Razorbacks.

It's a long way from Texas to Kansas to Utah and back to Arkansas.

But that is the path that new University of Arkansas football commit and Spring (Texas) Westfield quarterback Jacoby Walker (6-2, 215, 4.59) has traveled before deciding Monday night that he will be a Razorback.

Walker, a mid-term graduate who becomes Arkansas' 15th public commit of the 2010 class, had previously committed to the Jayhawks and Utes before visiting the UA this past weekend.

Scout.com, which has him ranked as the 38th best quarterback in the nation, evaluates his skills this way:

"A very smart quarterback, he can hit every pass out there and at times he is unstoppable. He can take off running if there are too many defensive backs in coverage. Has made great strides as a senior and has put together the entire package. Plays hurt, wants to win and has added a deadly deep ball to his passing package. Not a vocal leader, he leads by example and by hard work."

He completed 62 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,383 yards this past season with 25 touchdowns and also rushed for 347 yards and 7 other scores while leading his team to an 8-4 record and the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

Walker, a finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club's Offensive Player of the Season, also threw for 2,084 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior while completing 66 percent of his tosses.

He will be able to go through spring practice with the Razorbacks.

"I've always planned on coming in during January because playing quarterback you've got to come in and learn the system," Walker said in an earlier interview.
