Thursday morning grid update, 8/12

It was a tough day for the placekickers in the first of two workouts Thursday. Both Alex Tejada and Eddie Camara had their worst day of camp.

There was the good, the bad and the ugly Thursday morning at Arkansas football practice. Perhaps it was the heat. Perhaps it was the start of the second week of practices and two-a-days all rolled into one for the bad. But it was clear about the ugly.

Alex Tejada and Eddie Camara had some ugly kicks. Tejada missed four and Camara three in what was easily the worst day the two dueling placekickers in fall camp to this point. Camara was close on his three misses, one of them striking the right upright. Tejada had two close misses, two not so close. The misses were from mid range.

There was good in the practice. The defensive secondary continued with solid coverage. Andru Stewart came up with another interception, this time a floater from Brandon Mitchell that might have been the result of a bad route or missed read by a receiver. Elton Ford seemed to have a good day.

It was the first of two workouts on the day. The team wore helmets and shoulder pads, but did not have full pads on legs. Consequently, there were no live tackling drills in the morning workout.

There were long third-down conversion periods in the practice. The offense seemed to be about 50-50 with De'Anthony Curtis making some key catches. However, the defense won some of those battles and there were a couple of dropped passes.

Freshman defensive end Chris Smith continues to get a lot of action with the first and second teams, particularly in nickel situations. Joe Adams returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday.
