Monday morning grid update, 8/16

Arkansas saw its depth at linebacker slip enough that it might have required a position swap. Kickers and snappers got some extra work.

Arkansas resumed two-a-days after a day off with a Monday morning workout in Reynolds Razorback Stadium. A north wind brought milder conditions, but it didn't help the temperature of the head coach. Bobby Petrino was in a mood to get after players, including kickers and snappers.

The morning session for placekickers went poorly enough that Petrino asked the kickers to stay after practice and go through their session again. And it appeared that Alex Tejada and Eddie Camara, the two who have dueled at placekicker for the first 10 days, now have a new rival. Freshman Zach Hocker also was in the kicking sessions during and after practice. Snappers and holders had some mishaps with their operation producing some extra work afterwards, too.

There wasn't a clear winner in the kicking on Monday. Tejada had a couple of misses. It appeared Camara had a couple of misses and another tipped at the line of scrimmage. Hocker had three misses. All were kicking into the north breeze that gusted at between 10 and 15 mph.

The practice was a mixed bag. There were times that quarterbacks and wide receivers meshed in crisp fashion. There were other times when the quarterbacks either missed receivers or the passes were dropped.

Anthony Leon worked at outside linebacker in some packages, possibly more than at other times this fall. The Hogs might need a little depth with some injuries popping up. Love did not take any repetitions at safety. Jermaine Love, the first teamer at middle linebacker in spring and so far this fall, dressed out, but did not practice. He was on the side with strength and conditioning staff. Jerry Franklin was not at practice. Bret Harris has been out a couple of days with a knee injury.

Rudell Crim, who left the scrimmage Saturday with what was thought to be a mild concussion, was not on the field for practice. Elton Ford worked with the ones at tight safety. Dustin Cain and Darrell Smith also got more work at safety.

Tenarius Wright was dressed out, but did not go through the team sessions. He's been battling back spasms.

There were a couple of interceptions, one by Tramain Thomas when he stepped in front of a seam route thrown by Tyler Wilson. A Ryan Mallett pass was intercepted by Ross Rasner when it bounced off the hands of De'Anthony Curtis.

There were no live periods in the morning workout. The Hogs are scheduled for another practice Monday afternoon. Interviews will be conducted following the second practice.
