Interview: Chris Mitchell

Defensive tackle recruit, Chris Mitchell took time out today to discuss with us his decision to join the Black Knights of Army. An All-District defensive tackle, Chris also excells in the classroom and was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Class 5A Academic All-State Football team.

ArmySports.com: What was the best part of the recruiting process?
Chris Mitchell: The coaches were fantastic, they were so down to earth and you can really get personal with them. Coach Etheridge was my recruiting coach and he made two home visits and made you feel like family. Coach Berry came down with Coach Etheridge on one visit in early January and that is when I verbally committed.

ArmySports.com: What was the most significant factor that led you to pick Army?
Chris Mitchell: I come from a military family. My mother served in the military and my dad is a West Point graduate (class of 1975). I have grown up an Army football fan and to play for Black Knights is a dream come true.

ArmySports.com: Have you followed the recruiting process through the Internet?
Chris Mitchell: Yes, through StudentSports.com and InsidersSports.com and following who will be playing next year.

ArmySports.com: What's your current height and weight and have the coaches talked to you about what kind of size they want you to come in at?
Chris Mitchell: I'm currently 6-2 1/2, 270.

ArmySports.com: What are you doing to prepare yourself physically for the upcoming season?
Chris Mitchell: I have been lifting pretty hard since football season ended and running to build speed plus endurance.

ArmySports.com: Describe yourself as a player.
Chris Mitchell: I am very determined and intense and on the field, I love to play violent.

ArmySports.com: So do you have one song that you listen to before a game to get you pumped up...and what is that song?
Chris Mitchell: Any type of hard rock or heavy metal.

ArmySports.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
Chris Mitchell: My parents. They instilled in me the confidence that I have today and the qualities that make me the man that I am.

ArmySports.com: Chris, who is your favorite football player in college or professional?
Chris Mitchell: I'm a big Cowboys fan, although not lately {laughing}. However, Emmitt Smith is my all time favorite player.

ArmySports.com: What actor do you think would star in a movie about your life?
Chris Mitchell: It would be Arnold (Schwarzenegger). He is one of my favorites.

ArmySports.com: Anything you would like to say to the Army fans on Armysports.com that will be reading this?
Chris Mitchell: I hope to contribute as soon as I can and help the turnaround happen as soon as possible
