Baseball: Army advances to PL finals

The Army Black Knights defeated Lafayette on Saturday 8-7 and 6-3 to advance to the Patriot League Championship game. The Black Knights will host a solid Holy Cross squad next weekend for the championship series. The winner will get an automatic bid to the NCAA baseball tournament.

In the first game Army fell behind 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning, however, the Black Knights scored six runs in the sixth inning to get things back under control. Chris Rowley, who struck out five, picked up the win and improved to 11-0 on the season.

In the second game Army led just 4-3 after seven innings but an RBI single by Daniel Cortes and sacrifice fly by J.T. Watkins provided a winning margin for Army.

Army will now host Holy Cross, who swept a double header from Navy, next weekend.

The Black Knights and the Crusaders split a 4-game series in late April.
