Army Spring Depth Chart Review: Rover LB

ArmySports.com continues its review of the Black Knights post spring depth chart. Today we'll look at the Rover linebacker position. Justin Trimble and Thomas Holloway with compete for playing time at this position. However, a newcomer from the Prep School could land some game minutes.

Rover
Starter: Justin Trimble #5 Jr.
Back up: Thomas Holloway #29 Jr.
At Rover junior Justin Trimble (5-11, 200) emerged as the leader for the position held the last three years by last year's captain Steve Erzinger. Last season Trimble replaced Reggie Nesbit at Mike linebacker after the blowout loss to Northern Illinois in the opener. With Justin at Mike linebacker Army played two very good defensive games in a row against quality opponents. Trimble's ability to get depth on his pass drops really helped the secondary which struggled in the opener. He knocked down Northwestern's final pass attempt to preserve the victory in a huge upset. Trimble was injured in the first series against Ball State and missed two games. He returned in a backup role against Vanderbilt and re-injured himself and missed the rest of the year. Justin is part of a band of three brothers who played football at West Point. As a freshman Trimble looked good in spot duty at Rover and has the athleticism and ability to cover the position requires.

Trimble will have to beat out fellow junior Thomas Holloway (5-11, 196) for the starting job. Holloway played in every game last year and started six games at free safety. He finished second on the team in tackles (76 tackles, 1 INT) last year. Holloway is a smart and alert player. He likes to hit and is a sure tackler for his size. He has only average speed at best for a free safety so moving him closer to the line of scrimmage at Rover plays to his strengths.

The players to watch at Rover will come from United States Military Academy Prep School. This year's prep school graduates have a number of athletes who played the rover position and SAM safety at the United States Military Academy Prep School who have the ability to make the three deep depth chart. As always, we won't discuss these player's names until they complete Beast Barracks.
