Army won the recruiting battle with rival Navy for the services of Alex Aukerman, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety from Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. The commitment from Aukerman came after an offer was extended by the staff in July after a nice showing at the Black Knight summer camp.

"It's was Monday, August 5th, when I got the green light to commit from Coach Waugh," Aukerman shared with ArmySports.com. "I was offered on July 10th, three days after camp. The coaches liked my size, my ability to move from sideline to sideline, and how well I play my man coverage.

"I was leaning toward Harvard, but the visit [to West Point] really opened my eyes to the opportunity to play and serve my county. They have the top tier academics I was looking for. Going to campus was surprising for me and made all the difference in my decision. I was impressed with the facilities and the coaches. It's definitely a big weight off my shoulders. Now I can watch film and prepare for the season instead of talking to coaches and sending out highlight film."

Aukerman, an All-State performer in 2012, chose Army over offers from Navy and Ball State. He was named Center Point's team M.V.P. last season with 78 tackles helping the Trojans to a 12-2 record and regional championship for the second year in a row.

"We didn't finish too hot last year," explained Aukerman, "but we're optimistic about change some things around and bring home some trophies this season.

"I've done a lot in the off-season with getting bigger, faster, and stronger. I think I'll have a big year at strong safety and I'm also on punt return."

Center Point will begin the season with Warren Central on August 23rd.
