Troung: Army coaches like me as nose guard

Army continues to add on to their recruiting class of 2014. The latest addition is William Truong, a 6-foot-2, 253-pound defensive lineman from Esperanza High School in Anaheim, Calif. Look inside quotes from Truong.

"Army began showing me interest way before my senior season, "said Truong. "I was being recruited by Coach (Payam) Saadat, who was part of the old coaching staff. He told me he thought I was a skilled player and wanted the opportunity to recruit me. I talked to two of the new coaches. They seem like really great individuals and I committed to Army last Tuesday. Right now I'm doing the essay and the application to the Academy process.

"This is a really good opportunity to play football at the Division 1 level, which has always been a goal of mine, and receive an tremendous education. I'd like to do something in the medical field like Nursing if they have that available.

"I was told b the coaches they are going to be installing a new defense and they like me at nose guard. They told me they liked how quickly I can move around and they way I play on the line hands-wise. I'll be starting out at the prep school, but my friend and teammate, Garrett Sweetser is going in direct."

Truong was a two-year starter in his junior and senior seasons at Esperanza also serving as a team captain. In his senior season, Truong was named first team All-Century League and was one vote shy of being named the league's Lineman of the Year for 2013. He also competes for his school in the shot put and discus throw. Top Stories
