Branch has three offers

Grant Branch IV is seeing his recruiting heating up in the dog days of summer with two new offers this week from Army and Western Illinois. The 6-foot-3, 278-pound offensive lineman plays at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Ill. Branch has played a big part of the Broncos success at left tackle and Army first started taking notice last fall.

The school won four consecutive state championships from 2009 to 2012 before their streak ended last season in the state final.

"Army started showing interest in me about four games into the season," Branch told ArmySports.com. "Coach Waugh came by the school and we've stayed in contact ever since. Yesterday, the letter arrived in the mail saying I had the [Army] offer.

"I haven't talked to the coaches since I got the letter. Not yet. Coach Waugh has told me they like the way I move as an athlete. I'm fast with good hands and can adjust quickly to what's happening on the field. They want me to the the interior at offensive guard.

"It's a great offer. I mean, I'm definitely considering it. I'd have to put Army in my top three right now. I had considered going to a military academy for college but never really put it into action. I'm going to be calling the coaches soon and set up something so I can go out and see the campus."

Branch hit the camp circuit in a big way this summer competing in camps at Bowling Green, Western Illinois, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ole Miss. In addition to Army and Western Illinois, Branch has been been offered by South Dakota.

"I was hoping to announce my college decision early in the season," he said. "Maybe three games into the season I'll be ready to say where I'm going and commit. I like schools with a winning attitude. I want to go to a college that has my degree. I'd like to study supply chain management. The last thing is a like a nice family environment."

Montini Catholic had a 13-1 record in 2013. Branch was named First Team All-Suburban Christian Conference as a junior. This year's Broncos team features a number of talented seniors including Leon Thornton, a wide receiver who committed to Indiana in June. Branch has a good football pedigree. His father, Grant Branch III, played running back at Ohio State.
