The 6-foot, 218-pound outside linebacker committed to the Black Knights on January 23th, 2015, during an in-home visit with Army recruiter Bob Bodine.
"I feel like the Army program is on the way up. They've been down for awhile with some bad years, but this new staff in there now is going to be really good. They were my first offer back in February of last year. They sold me on the idea of building the program up. I think that we're gaining on Navy, in terms of overall talent. I noticed that in this year's Army-Navy game. It's really getting close between the two service academies. I went to (the West Point) campus and saw how beautiful everything was there. I'm honored to have the opportunity to become an officer and fight for my country."
Jones chose Army over an offer from Eastern Michigan.
"Troy Everhart was who offered me initially (from Army). He said they thought I had good film and that I seemed like a hard-working guy who would fit in well with what they're trying to do. I've met with Coach (John) Loose and he likes how I play all over the field, loves my instincts, said that I read well, and that I had pretty good speed."
Jones was a three-year starter at both outside and inside linebacker for St. Xavier head coach Steve Specht. As a senior, he was second in the league in tackles, named first team All-Greater Catholic League, first team All-District, All-State honorable mention, and was chosen team MVP. He is the son of Jamie Jones and D.J. Jones, and brother to two sisters, Brittany and Kara. Jones was one of the top wrestlers in the state of Ohio as a junior and senior. He is unsure at the present time if he will be appointed to West Point directly or to USMAPS.
