Senior Daniel Grochowski made just 7-of-13 field goal attempts last year. He opened the season missing his first three attempts including his disastrous game in the loss against Yale when he missed two field goals. He settled down the rest of the way making 7-of-10 including a clutch career long 52-yard field goal against Navy. Grochowski made 35-of-37 extra point attempts. He had 12 touchbacks on 34 kickoffs. Grochowski hit a 25-yard field goal in the Black-Gold game. Cale Brewer took over on kickoffs for the second half and had 20 kickoffs with just one touchback. Brewer was more impressive making his four tackles than kicking off the ball.

Punter Alex Tardieu had a great year as he averaged 39.3 yards on 44 punts with 21 of his punts being fair caught, eight being placed inside the twenty yard line and six traveling over fifty yards. Tardieu was one of Army's best players and only five of his punts were returned all year. He averaged 41.6 on six punts during the Black-Gold game.

Returner Josh Jenkins has good speed but averaged just 17.8 yards on 26 kickoff returns last fall. Tevin Long left spring practice as the other kick returner. Long showed good speed and the ability to make players miss in the open field as an option quarterback at the prep school. Maybe he can help. The Black Knights must get more from the return game. Edgar Poe had a 25-yard punt return in the Black-Gold game. Army punt returners averaged just 4.1 yards per return. To be fair to the returners, the blocking of the return teams has been terrible and needs to improve. I wouldn't be surprised if a plebe is looked at as a kick returner this summer. Top Stories
