Looking at Army's Opponents: Lafayette

What You Need To Know: To say expectations are low for Lafayette coming into the 2016 season is putting things mildly. The Leopards are coming off a miserable 1-10 season that included the first winless Patriot League season in school history. The Leopards have just 13 seniors on their roster. They had zero players picked for any of the Patriot All=League teams and have zero players on awards watch lists. They also have the most difficult schedule the school has faced in years.

The Leopards do however return 16 starters, so while the depth is not there the team does at least have a bunch of players with starting experience coming back. The team also cannot be as bitten by the injury bug as it was last year when almost 45-percent of the roster missed significant time through physical issues.

The team will be looking to senior quarterbacks Drew Reed and Blake Searfoss for inspiration on offense, though this is a unit that needs explosive play makers to appear from somewhere. On defense the Leopards are keyed by junior linebacker Brandon Bryant, who made 114 tackles last season and was often the only reason the team didn't lose by more points.

2015 Stats That Matter (125 FCS teams): Defensive points per game 106th; Offensive points per game 118th.

Fun Fact: The invention of the football helmet is largely credited to Lafayette student George Barclay. He worked alongside a saddle maker to create a helmet in 1894.
