Army Basketball Update

The Army basketball team picked up its first win of the season vs Poytechnic but continues to struggle against an easy early season schedule.

Record: 1-6

Recent games: Defeat Polytechnic, 77-43; lost to St. Francis, 78-64; lost to Albany, 73-46.

Scoring leaders: Matt Bell (19.1 ppg), Colin Harris (10.1 ppg).

Rebounding leader: Colin Harris (4.6 rpg), Matt Bell (4.1 rpg).

Next up: host N.Y. Maritime on December 9; Visit Notre Dame on December 19.

Notes: Army has struggled early against a very favorable early schedule of teams. The real indicator for how far this team has sunk will be during the visit to nationally ranked Notre Dame on December 19. Statistically, looking at six losses Army has experienced during its early creme puff schedule, its difficult to see a trend as to why the Cadets have struggled. Army is neck and neck with the opposition in most statistical categories. Most notably is the steals and rebounding department. The opposition has 60 total steals to Army's 36 and has outrebounded Army 30-28 on average. The thinking here is that if the Black Knights can just protect the ball better and get more scoring from other players besides just Harris and Bell, they might be able to win some games. If Army can't do this then the upcoming Patriot League games might get very ugly.
