Herbert on Sports Update

FOOTBALL (1-6): Army 20, Akron 0. This was our third game against Akron (1991, 1993) and our 3rd win. The defense continues to look better every week, and for the first time this season, we played a near flawless game on offense – no interceptions, excellent punting by yearling Owen Tolson that kept Akron bottled up, great running by senior Carlton Jones (162 yds on 38 carries), and two field goals (49 & 35 yds) by Justin Koenig in sloppy conditions.

Yearling safety Caleb Campbell ran an interception back to the Akron 23 early in the second period, and Jones carried 3 times for 11, 3, and 9 yds for the TD. Koenig's field goal made it 10-0 at the half. Zac Dahman completed the scoring with a 32 yd pass to Jones with 5 minutes to play as Army held the ball most of the final quarter. The Army defense limited Akron to 44 yds rushing on 22 carries.
