Herbert on Sports update

LACROSSE (5-4): Army 11, Air Force 10. Army got off to a fast start, leading 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, but Air Force tied it 5-5 at the half. At the end of 3, Army led 9-7 and we still held a two goal lead with five minutes to play. But Air Force tied the game with just over 3 minutes to play. Army controlled the face-off to begin overtime, and 50 seconds later senior Mike Obringer scored his 6th goal of the game to give Army the win.

This was our 13th meeting with Air Force in lacrosse, and our 13th win. Army is ranked 20th, and we play at Bucknell tomorrow.

BASEBALL (12-12-1):  Before the weekend doubleheaders, we tied Quinnipiac 6-6.  For the first time since 2003 Army lost a Patriot League series.  Lafayette took 3 out of 4 at West Point last weekend.  They won 16-5, 11-2, and 5-4.  We won one game 3-2.  Bucknell here for two doubleheaders this weekend.

SOFTBALL (9-20):  Took 3 out of 4 from Holy Cross in the opening league weekend.  Army won on Saturday 6-1 and 11-8.  Yearling Veronica Barth pitched a 3-hit complete game in the opener.  Sunday Army won 8-5, and lost 6-0.  Doubleheader at Rutgers today, and four games at Colgate this weekend.

GOLF:  Army finished 8th in a field of 19 teams at the El Diablo Intercollegiate at Citrus Springs, Florida over the spring break, then last weekend we finished 11th of 22 teams at the Upton Towson Golf Classic in Maryland.  Senior Austin Luther shot a five-under par 67 in the first round.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (12-11):  Extended the winning streak to 7 with wins over Quinnipiac 5-2, Albany 5-2, and Bucknell 7-0.  At Lehigh this weekend.

MEN'S TENNIS (6-14):  Lost at #28 Tulsa 7-0 and lost at #60 Southern Methodist 7-0.  Bucknell and Hofstra here this Sunday.

WATER POLO CLUB:  At the Carnegie-Mellon Tournament, Army defeated St. Mary's 19-4, defeated Pittsburgh 17-12, and defeated Mercer County 14-7.  In the day's final game, Army defeated Grove City 14-7.  On the second day of the tournament, Army lost to Ohio U. 14-5.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE CLUB (5-0):  Routed Norwich 16-5, and then beat Rhode Island 15-12.
