AREA GRADE COMMENTS
PASSING OFFENSE
C-
Carson Williams gained 164 yards passing and completed 14 of 33 passes. However, the five sacks Williams endured dealt a severe blow to Army's upset hopes. If Army is going to be a passing team they need to limit the sacks to no more than 1 or 2 a game.
RUSHING OFFENSE
F
Army has got to do a better job rushing the ball; 17 yards rushing for a game is not going to get many wins. In Army's defense, the high number of sacks Army allowed distorts those numbers. Air Force's defense is not invincible and the Cadets should have been able to gain decent rushing yardage on them.
PASSING DEFENSE
D+
Shawn Carney completed 9 of 12 passes for just over 100 yards but the 48-yard scoring pass in the second quarter was a huge blow to Army's victory plans. Junior linebacker Frank Scappaticci is a great player and his interception was a thing of beauty.
RUSHING DEFENSE
D
Allowing 432 yards rushing is terrible but the Cadets did force three Falcon field goals. Everyone expected a better showing by this Army defense.
SPECIAL TEAMS
D
Owen Tolson connected on his only field goal attempt. Tolson also punted an 8 times for an incredible 58-yard per punt average.
COACHING
D
Army had a week off to prepare for this game but you couldn't tell by watching the game. This staff must start thinking about the future and start getting young players some playing time. Stan Brock mentioned in his press conference last Tuesday that he and his staff were going to study Air Force's successful offense during the off season. This should be music to every Army fan's ears.
OVERALL GRADE
D+
Nice showing in the first half but it takes four quarters of hard work to win. Army faces an even bigger challenge this week as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights come knocking. Army fans, don't give up on this team. They still have a lot of fight left in them. Come out and support them on Saturday and get an 'A' for fan support.
