AREA GRADE COMMENTS
PASSING OFFENSE
A
It was Air Carson Williams on Saturday. Williams, who completed 26 of 38 passes for 328 yards for 3 touchdowns, had the honor of completing the passes to Jeremy Trimble that made him the all-time leading receiver at Army in yardage and touchdown receptions.
RUSHING OFFENSE
B
Army had a decent day rushing; picking up 163 total yards 43 carries (3.8 yds per carry). Tony Dace finished with 69 yards and Ian Smith had 48 yards.
PASSING DEFENSE
F
Tulsa has a great passing attack. A lot of teams have gotten F's this year facing quarterback Paul Smith. Smith picked apart the Army secondary to the tune of 390 yards and 2 touchdowns.
RUSHING DEFENSE
D+
With all the passing yardage that Tulsa piled up, you'd think that Army could have kept their running back from getting over 100 yards yet Tarrion Adams did just that, picking up 118 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.
SPECIAL TEAMS
B-
Owen Tolson made 1 of 2 field goals and had 1 punt for 36 yards. Corey Anderson had 4 returns for 105 with a long return of 33 yards. Tulsa's longest return went for 31 yards. Nothing spectacular here but no major special teams blunders.
COACHING
B
Great job opening up the offense. Yes, it was a against a weak Tulsa defense but Army's offense had struggled earlier in the year against other weak defenses so this is a definite sign of progress. The positive offensive performance gives the team something to build on going into the Navy game. Navy has a similar level defense as Tulsa. If Army can get a similar offensive performance against Navy and the defense can slow down the Navy triple option offense the Cadets might be able to get memorable win in Baltimore. Suggestion, take your team and coaches out the night before the Army-Navy game to some kind of amusement park. Let them drive around in bumper cars and have some fun. Lighten things up so they will play less tight against Navy.
OVERALL GRADE
C+
It was really good to see the offense pile up some yardage. The defense seemed to regress some but remember Tulsa scored 105 points in its two previous games. Get ready for the big game. It's time to end the Navy win streak. It stops in 2007.
