ArmySports.com recently conducted an exclusive interview with RB Raymond Maples from out of West Philadelphia Catholic High. During our interview with Maples, the 2009 signee spoke in-depth on why he chose West Point as his final destination.
SM: First of all, congratulations on your recent signing with West Point… Tell me, how does it feel to be a part of one of the most prestigious programs in the country?
RM: Actually right now I can't believe it; I really can't describe the feeling. I'm very excited; very excited to be a part of it… I'm just ready to get started.
SM: What other program or programs did you consider before making your final decision?
RM: Basically it came down to Richmond and West Point.
SM: What major factors helped you to decide that West Point was the place for you?
RM: Basically, I know I'll have a good life after going to a program like West Point. Also, they are one of the nation's leaders in academics and job placement. They are also one of the top schools for my major.
SM: What are you planning to major in?
RM: I plan to major in Civil Engineering.
SM: Academically, how are you looking right now?
RM: I'm looking pretty good. I have 3.5 GPA right now. I have a 1410 on my SAT; 980 between the Math and Verbal.
SM: Briefly switching to the athletic side of things, which member from the Army Coaching Staff was primarily in charge of recruiting you?
RM: Coach Payam Saadat.
SM: Are you expected to take red-shirt your first year or are you expected to contribute immediately.
RM: I won't be contributing right away. I will be going to the prep school first.
SM: My last question, what are you looking forward to most about West Point?
RM: I'm really looking forward to meeting new friends; lifetime friends.
