PASSING OFFENSE
C+
No interceptions is good but just not enough success in this area. Steelman was 2-of-6 for 17 yards. He did have a nice completion to Ali Villanueva. Carson Williams came in late and drove the Cadets to the Falcon 11 before the clock ran out.
RUSHING OFFENSE
B-
192 yards against the tough Air Force defense in nothing to be ashamed of but when you are running a triple option offense you need to get at least 250 or so yards to have a chance to win. Steelman had a fine 42 yard run in the first quarter to give Army some momentum and he finished with 102. He's getting better and better.
PASSING DEFENSE
C
The Cadets gave up way too many yards to the Falcons on just four completions (131 yards). The killer was the 73 yard pass in third quarter from Tim Jefferson to Kevin Fogler. That play could have been much less had it been properly contained. I pointed out in my scouting report that Jefferson was a very accurate quarterback and he delivered on that during the game. Army had three sacks during the game but they all came in the first half.
RUSHING DEFENSE
B
Not too bad. They Black Knights held the nation's No. 4 rushing offense to 100 yards under its average. Jared Tew finished with 102 yards to lead the Falcons but Jefferson was limited to minus 25 yards rushing. Stephen Anderson finished with 16 tackles for the Black Knights.
SPECIAL TEAMS
D
Army didn't attempt a field goal and Jonathan Bulls punted for a 38 yard average. He did managed to get three downed inside the Air Force 20. Allowing an 88 yard punt return was disaster and put the Cadets in an early hole.
COACHING
C
After the game, head coach Rich Ellerson admitted that he was out coached.
OVERALL GRADE
C
After a good showing in the first half it was a disappointing way to finish the game. Now the Cadets must put this game behind them win out to make it to a bowl game and that, of course, means beating Navy. However, first things first, the Black Knights must handle FCS opponent VMI on Saturday.
