Army Baseball Update: 4/19

Army (20-11,10-2 Patriot) completed a 4-game sweep of Lehigh to take control of the Patriot League.

Army 5, Iona 4- On Wednesday centerfielder David Darnell drove in four runs as Army overcame a 4-3 5th inning deficit to defeat Iona, 5-4. Five Army pitchers combined to limit Iona to four runs. Manny Fernandez after pitching 1.2 scoreless/hitless innings.

Army 3, Lehigh 2- This was the first of two Saturday games. In a pitching duel, Army's Matt Fouch pitched 7 scoreless innings and limited Lehigh to just 5 hits. Andrew Berger of Lehigh held Army to just 6 hits. The Black Knights trailed 2-0 in the top of the fourth but the Cadets put together a 4-hit bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game.

Army 4, Lehigh 1- In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, this one lasting 9 innings, Army was out-hit by Lehigh, 8-7, but solid defensive play and two costly errors by Lehigh helped pave the way for a Black Knight victory. Steve Cummings (5-1) pitched 7.2 innings allowing 5 hits and walking 2 to pick up the win. Kevin McKague earned his eighth save of the season. McKague also led Army in hitting with a pair hits.

Army 9, Lehigh 2- In Sunday's 7-inning game, Army's Joey Henshaw (3-1) allowed 5 hits and walked 4 during 4.2 innings of work. Three errors by Army allowed Lehigh two runs. Manny Fernandez closed out the game a solid 2.1 innings of hitless and scoreless innings. At the plate the Black Knights were laed by third baseman Steve May who had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Henshaw had a triple that scored 3 runs.

Army 4, Lehigh 2- Army completed a 4-game sweep over Lehigh with a 4-2 Sunday game two victory. Lee Logan (3-1) scattered 5 hits and allowed 2 runs in 6.2 innings. Manny Fernandez and Kevin McKague combined to allowed no hits in the final 2.1 innings. The Black Knights pounded out 10 hits with J.T. Watkins knocking a solo homerun for the home team. The victory put Army (20-11,10-2 Patriot) in command of the Patriot League standings with a 4-game lead over the second place teams, Holy Cross, Bucknell and Lehigh with 8 conference games remaining. The top four teams get berths in the Patriot League Tournament.
