Morgan adds interest, continues in playoffs

Three-star junior center Maverick Morgan discusses recruiting and his season. He added a school to recently.

As state playoffs get underway in high school basketball, junior Maverick Morgan faces a familiar face.

On Saturday, the Springboro, Oh. native will go head-to-head with another top 2013 target -- Withrow's Devin Williams.

"It's going to be a war," Morgan said. "They're a lot more athletic than us, so we are going to need to work really hard in every part of the game."

Several schools have been in to check out the 6-foot-10 center recently, including Ohio State, Wisconsin, Xavier, Dayton, and Minnesota. A new school, has entered the picture.

"Yale called me last night," Morgan said late Wednesday evening. "My mom was really proud of me. Obviously they have great academics."

Morgan, who sports a self-reported 24 ACT score, says he has been talking with three programs most consistently: Xavier, Dayton, and West Virginia.

"I talk a lot with coach [Travis] Steele and coach [Chris] Mack from Xavier," Morgan said. "Coach [Kevin] Kuwik from Dayton also and then I spoke with West Virginia today. They lost in the Big East Tournament, but they're young and are going to be good. Bob Huggins is a great coach."

After his season is over, Morgan will concentrate his efforts on the AAU circuit, where he suits up with Martin's Wolverines. A decision isn't likely to come soon, as he noted he can't see himself making a decision before the AAU season is over.

He expects to hear from more Big Ten schools in the future, but said there aren't any teams that he's waiting for to enter his recruitment.

"If they want to, that's awesome," Morgan said. "But if they don't, I'm just very grateful to have the offers that I do."

Although A-10 powers Xavier and Dayton are both well within driving distance for his family and friends to come see him play, that's not a deciding factor in his recruitment.

"I haven't ruled out staying home and I haven't ruled out leaving Ohio," Morgan said. "I'd just like to find a good fit for me and I'm sure my parents will come watch some games even if it's not in Dayton or Cincinnati."
