A-10 Splits Four NCAA Games

Four Atlantic 10 teams were in action on Friday and two came out on top. Saint Louis beat Memphis and Xavier topped Notre Dame. Temple and St. Bonaventure dropped their second round contests.

The Atlantic 10 placed an impressive four teams in the NCAA Tournament this year.

All of them were in action on Friday, and St. Bonaventure got things started. After leading for a large majority of the game, the Bonnies came up just short in their upset bid as a No. 14 seed against Florida State.

The evening session proved better for the conference as it went 2-1 with victories from Saint Louis and Xavier. Temple, the regular season champion, bowed out to South Florida in a low-scoring slugfest.

The Billikens toughed out a slow-paced game to make a nice comeback and beat the C-USA stalwart Memphis Tigers. Xavier, aided by some great play late from Tu Holloway and a couple fortutious calls, sent Notre Dame home early.

Stars of the night: Kwamain Mitchell (SLU), Tu Holloway (Xavier), Andrew Nicholson (SBU), Khalif Wyatt (Temple).

Mitchell poured in 22 of SLU's 61 points, Holloway was sensational with 25, Nicholson scored 20, and Wyatt had 19 as the Owls got outscored by 18 in the second half.
