According to a report by David Woods of the Indianapolis Star, the Butler Bulldogs will join the Atlantic 10 starting in 2012-13.
Butler, much like Virginia Commonwealth, would not have been able to participate in its conference tournament this season, risking a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament.
In a tweet by New York Times' Pete Thamel, Butler Athletic Director Barry Collier said, "Ultimately, it was in our best interest to reach an agreement with the Horizon League for immediate departure."
Brad Stevens and Co. joining the league brings the Atlantic 10 to 16 members for the upcoming season and it will be a very formidable conference.
The chance of yet another year of multiple bids to the NCAA Tournament is incredibly likely with as many as five being fairly possible.
