Fairley Named SEC Defensive Player of Week

Birmingham, Ala.--The Southeastern Conference recognized Auburn junior defensive tackle Nick Fairley on Monday as he was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against Mississippi State.

Facing an offense that used multiple quarterbacks and ran everything from the shotgun to a near wishbone, Nick Fairley accounted for five total tackles, including two and a half tackles for loss (-10 yards), an interception , a fumble recovery and three quarterback pressures in Auburn's 17-14 win over the Bulldogs.

Helping Auburn hold Mississippi State to just 117 yards on the ground and 246 yards of total offense, Fairley had one and a half sacks for minus six yards as well in the win. For the season the Mobile native has nine tackles, four tackles for a loss, and three sacks.

Fairley became the first Auburn player since Sen'Derrick Marks in 2007 against New Mexico State to have a fumble recovery and an interception in the same game.
