Auburn Announces Men's Hoops Schedule

Auburn, Ala.--Coach Tony Barbee announced his first Auburn men's basketball schedule on Friday evening that will feature a home game vs. the University of North Carolina as the opener, however, it's not the campus that is the home of the Tar Heels.

The University of North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs will play the first official men's basketball game at the new Auburn Arena. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m on Nov. 12th.

Before former North Carolina star Jeff Lebo was fired as head coach of the Tigers his former team was considered the likely opening night opponent for the new arena.

Barbee faces the daunting challenge of no returning starters. The 2009-2010 team graduated four starters and the fifth starter, junior guard Frankie Sullivan, is sidelined after having ACL surgery. Another likely starter for this season, sophomore forward/center Ty Armstrong, is also expected to miss the season after having knee surgery.

"We have the always challenging SEC schedule as well as some quality non-conference games," Barbee said. "It provides a difficult challenge for our young team, and one that we can grow from. The inaugural game in the Auburn Arena will be special as well as hosting a three-day tournament the second weekend of the season."

Before the Tigers play their regular season opener vs. UNC-Asheville they will play exhibition home games on Nov. 3rd vs. West Alabama and Nov. 8th vs. Columbus, Ga., State.
