Pat's Picks: Coach Dye's Predictions

College Football Hall of Fame coach Pat Dye looks at this week's football games in the SEC and other contests around the country.

Editor's Note: Coach Pat Dye was 4-1 with his SEC predictions in week nine to improve his record to 89-23 picking league games. His only miss in the league was picking Georgia to defeat Florida, but the Gators won in overtime. Outside the league it was a tough week as he posted an 8-6 mark as he picked Notre Dame over Tulsa, Miami over Virginia, Clemson over Boston College, Texas over Baylor and Michigan over Penn State. His record for the season is 119-42.

Arkansas at South Carolina--I like South Carolina to win this one because the Gamecocks are little more physical, they have a marquee running back and quarterback Stephen Garcia is playing well. Also, this game is in Columbia plus the Razorbacks will have to play without their best receiver, Greg Childs, who was injured playing late in the game long after it had been decided. I wonder how Coach (Bobby) Petrino can explain that.

Idaho State at Georgia--This should be an easy win for Georgia.

Charleston Southern at Kentucky--This should be an easy win for a Kentucky team working on becoming bowl eligible.

Louisiana-LaFayette at Ole Miss--The Rebels need a win and should get one this week after having a rough time with Arkansas and Auburn the past two weeks.

Tennessee at Memphis--The Vols are struggling, but Memphis is too. Tennessee will win to improve to 3-6.

Alabama at LSU--Unless there is some drastic improvement in LSU's offense, Alabama should win this game because it can score. Alabama has one of the better defensive teams in the conference and you can take defense on the road with you.

Florida at Vanderbilt--This should be an easy win for Florida that will set the stage for a game vs. South Carolina on Nov. 13th in Gainesville with the winner earning a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

Chattanooga at Auburn--The Tigers should keep on winning on what should be a memorable day for the seniors as they are honored. If the Tigers take care of business on the field, it will be a fun day for the former students when they return to campus.

Offensive tackle Lee Ziemba is one of the Auburn seniors who will be honored on Saturday.

In games outside the Southeastern Conference:

TCU at Utah--I am going to pick this as my upset of the week. Utah is tough to beat at home so I am going with the Utes in what should be a good one.

Washington at Oregon--Washington's quarterback is out, but it wouldn't matter if he was healthy. Oregon is going to win and might score about 100 points in the process.

Nebraska at Iowa State--After last year's upset loss to the Cyclones, Nebraska will be ready for this one and should win on the road.

North Carolina at Florida State--With this game being played in Tallahassee I expect Florida State to win.

Navy at East Carolina--East Carolina.

Northwestern at Penn State--Northwestern.

Arizona at Stanford--Both teams are ranked, but Stanford, playing on its home field, should be too tough for the Wildcats so look for Stanford to win this one.

Arizona State at Southern Cal--This should be a close game, but I will pick the Trojans playing at home.

Wisconsin at Purdue--Wisconsin.

Iowa at Indiana--Iowa.

North Carolina State at Clemson--Clemson.

Louisville at Syracuse--Syracuse.

Maryland at Miami (Fla.)--Maryland.

Baylor at Oklahoma State--It should be a close game, but I will take Oklahoma State playing at home.

Oklahoma at Texas A&M–Oklahoma.
