Fortner's Tigers Outlast South Alabama

Auburn picked up its third women's basketball win of the season on Thursday night at the Auburn Arena.

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn women's basketball got 15 points from senior Alli Smalley plus 13 from freshman Jassany Williams as the Tigers defeated South Alabama 75-70 on Thursday night.

Coach Nell Fortner's team improved to 3-4 while South Alabama fell to 3-4. Auburn now has a 39-2 all-time record vs. South Alabama.

Taylor Ammons of South Alabama was the leading scorer with 17 points.

"It went down to the wire," Fortner said. "We did good job of knocking down free throws at the end of the game.

"I am really disappointed in how we came out in the second half," the coach added. "I really thought we were ready. We did a good job talking about what we needed to do in the locker room. I thought that group would come out and play but I probably left them in a little too long."
