Rocker Headed To NFL's Titans

Auburn's Tracy Rocker has accepted a job with the Tennessee Titans.

Auburn, Ala.--For the first time since taking over as Auburn's head coach in late 2008, Gene Chizik will have to replace a member of his coaching staff as defensive line coach Tracy Rocker has accepted a job with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday.

"The last two years have been an unbelievable experience with the opportunity to coach at my alma mater and help the program win a national championship," Rocker said. It's always been a goal of mine to coach in the NFL and this is a tremendous opportunity that I could not pass up."

While at Auburn, Rocker coached defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who won the Lombardi Award and was named a consensus All-American this past season. Antonio Coleman was a first-team All-SEC pick during Rocker's first season at Auburn.

"I'm very grateful to Coach Chizik, the Auburn administration and the entire Auburn family for what the last two years have meant to me and my family," Rocker said.

"I've been fortunate to have a great group of players to coach and mentor, and it is very difficult to leave them," he added. "Auburn is a special place because the fans are the greatest in the world. I'm appreciative for all of their support during my time as a player and as a coach."

Rocker is shown at practice in Arizona prior to Auburn's BCS Championship Game victory over Oregon.

An Auburn legacy who played for the Tigers from 1985-1988, Rocker won the 1988 Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award and was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. A third-round draft pick by the Washington Redskins, knee injuries cut short his NFL career and led him into the coaching profession.

Starting out at Troy State before moving to Cincinnati, Arkansas and Ole Miss before coming back to Auburn, Rocker has put together an impressive resume of work on the defensive line in his short coaching career.

Auburn head coach Chizik said, "We certainly hate to see Tracy leave, but this was an opportunity for him to pursue one of his professional goals. We're very appreciative of what he meant to Auburn both as a player and a coach, and we wish Tracy and his family nothing but the best in his new role with the Tennessee Titans.

"As I've said many times before, I believe we have the best coaching staff in the country and we're fortunate to have kept this staff intact for the last two years," Chizik added.

At Auburn he helped junior Nick Fairley find his form on the way to winning the 2010 Lombardi Award as the nation's top lineman and earning All-SEC and All-American honors. Just a year before Antonio Coleman was named a first-team All-SEC selection after leading the league in sacks and tackles for a loss.

Rocker will be coaching for new head coach Mike Munchak with the Titans as well as new defensive coordinator Jerry Gray. Gray was recently hired away from the University of Texas.
