Updated SEC Baseball Standings And Notes

Auburn is one-half game behind division leading LSU with 12 conference games remaining in the regular season.

Despite winning just one of three games in Nashville against the Vanderbilt Commodores, the LSU Tigers remain in first place in the SEC's Western Division thanks to a 9-2 win Sunday afternoon.

Tiger pitcher Nate Bumstead gave up just one run through seven innings as LSU won for the first time in five games against the Commodores.

The win allowed LSU to remain just one-half game ahead of the Auburn Tigers and one full game in front of Mississippi State after both won on Sunday to avoid sweeps at the hands of Arkansas and South Carolina respectively. Auburn got a two-run double from Sean Gamble to break open a tie game in the seventh inning to lead the Tigers to the win. First baseman Karl Amonite went 2-3 on Sunday and finished the weekend 5-11 with three home runs and five runs batted in. In his last five conference games Amonite is 9-18 with four home runs and seven RBI.

The Bulldogs dropped the first two games in Columbia, but two eighth-inning doubles broke a tie game Sunday as Mississippi State won just one of its three one-run games on the weekend.

Bringing up the rear in the division is Alabama after the Tide dropped two of three to Ole Miss in Oxford. Freshman Stephen Head pitched seven innings in his first career start as the Rebels won their third-straight series against Alabama and four of the last five.

In the SEC East it looks like the last team standing is going to win the race for the title. South Carolina leads the way followed by Florida. The Gators won two out of three from Georgia this past weekend to stay near the top of the division standings. Vanderbilt and Tennessee follow the Gators as the Volunteers avoided a sweep to Kentucky with a 9-8 win in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Wildcats and Bulldogs bring up the rear of the division.
