Nick Fairley Joins Suh In Detroit

Nick Fairley was picked in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions with the 13th selection.

New York, NY--Auburn's Nick Fairley joined Auburn teammate Cam Newton in the first round of Thursday night's NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall as the defensive tackle was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 13th overall selection.

Fairley will team up with Detroit rookie Ndamukong Suh to pose a serious threat to offenses in the NFC. Drafted second in last year's draft, Suh was voted the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year after totaling 66 tackles and 10 sacks in 2010.

Starting all 14 games for the BCS National Champions last season at defensive tackle, Fairley had one of the top seasons of any defensive player not only in Auburn history but SEC history as well Finishing with 60 tackles, 11 ½ sacks, 24 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries to go along with one interception, the 6-4, 295-pounder was as dominant as you can possibly be from the interior defensive line in 2010

It was enough to earn him the Lombardi Award as the top lineman in the country last season He became the first Auburn player to win the award since his position coach Tracy Rocker won it in 1988

Playing his first season ever as a defensive tackle in 2009, Fairley played in all 13 games for the Tigers with just two starts He finished the year with 28 tackles, three and a half tackles for a loss, and one and half sacks.

For his career Fairley had career totals of 88 tackles, 13 sacks and 27 ½ tackles for a loss in 27 games played for the Tigers.
