Many Bluechippers Expected for Big Cat

Auburn is expected to play host to a large group of talented football prospects from Alabama and other states this weekend.

Auburn, Ala.--In the first two years of its existence Auburn's Big Cat Weekend has attracted outstanding football prospects from a variety of states and that is expected to be the case over the Memorial Day holiday as several dozen bluechip prospects are expected to hang out with AU's coaches.

The first two Big Cat events were attended by 25 players who went on to sign with the Tigers helping Auburn have highly-ranked signee classes in 2010 and 2011.

Running backs are a high priority for the Tigers for their 2012 class. Among the visitors at that position are T.J. Yeldon from Daphne High, Jovon Robinson from Wooddale High in Memphis and Jordan Huff, a class of 2013 tailback at St. Paul's in Mobile.

Yeldon helped Daphne win the Class 6A state championship last year. In addition to being an outstanding runner, he has excellent hands as a receiver, which helps make him a prime prospect for Auburn.

At last year's Big Cat Weekend the Tigers got a commitment from five-star quarterback Kiehl Frazier, who enrolled for classes at AU last week. Auburn's big-time QB recruit for 2012, Zeke Pike, is expected to attend the event and has already publically announced for the Tigers. Pike is one of the commitments who is expected to try to help recruit some future teammates this weekend and in the coming months.

Defensive backs are also high priority recruits. Auburn's latest commitment, cornerback Josh Holsey, is a cornerback from Creekside High in Atlanta who is four star prospect. He is scheduled to visit Big Cat along with another bluechip defensive back from the Atlanta area, Geno Smith, is expected to make the trip in from St. Pius X.

Smith, who has made four previous visits to Auburn, is rated as's number four cornerback prospect in America.

Making the long trip in from Baltimore, Cyrus Jones is a talented cornerback who is expected to check out Gene Chizik's defending national champions. Jones, a four star prospect, is also a standout running back and is being recruited by colleges on both sides of the football.

Defensive linemen are a huge need for the Tigers. In-state standout Justin Shanks is making the short trip to Auburn from Prattville High. Henry Poggi, a big-time prospect from Gillman School in Baltimore, is expected to visit. He is a class of 2013 recruit who has offers from major powers including Auburn.

Jamichael Winston, a defensive end from Vigor in Mobile, is expected to visit as is class of 2013 prospect to watch Dee Liner from Muscle Shoals High. Liner made 81 tackles with 10 sacks as a sophomore.

Another highly thought of in-state defensive lineman visiting is Tyler Nero of Escambia County High in Atmore.

Denico Autry, a defensive end from East Mississippi Community College, is a highly-regarded juco prospect. Big Nick James from Long Beach, Miss., High is also expected to visit.

The Tigers need to stock up on wide receivers and one of the best in the South is Jaquay Williams at Sandy Creek, a player who is showing a lot of interest in the Tigers.

Cordarrelle Patterson from Hutchinson Community College is a tall athletic wideout expected to visit as is Ricardo Louis from Miami Beach Senior High.

Another wide receiver expected to be Big Cattin' is Stefon Diggs from Good Counsel High in Olney, Maryland. Brian Kimbrow, a wide receiver/athlete from Memphis East High, is a player who has shown a good bit of interest in the Tigers.

The Tigers picked up a commitment from four-star tight end Darrion Hutcherson from Dadeville High, but are short on numbers at that position and are looking for more help. Hutcherson was recently bumped up to a four star prospect by

Will Johnson, a 6-7, 245-pounder from Osseo High in Minnesota, is expected to make his first trip to Auburn. He recently received an offer from Auburn. The Tigers may get a visit from tight end Kent Taylor from Land O Lakes, Fla., High

Just across the state line in Georgia at Hogansville, Ricky Parks is a bluechipper who Auburn and many colleges are targeting. The Callaway High star, who is friends with Auburn signee Quan Bray, is expected to make a return visit to Auburn on Auburn for the event that starts early Saturday morning and runs much of the day.

Ricky Parks is rated as the No. 2 tight end prospect for the 2012 signee class.

A player attracting recruiting attention in South Carolina, Justin Meredith, is a standout tight end at T.L. Hanna in Anderson. He is expected to make a return visit to the Plains.

Perhaps the youngest visitor to this year's Big Cat will be Class of 2014 linebacker, Tre Williams from St. Paul's in Mobile, a standout at the recent MVP Camp in Prattville.

Shane Callahan is rated as a four star offensive tackle.

A player making a long trip to Auburn is Shane Callahan, a 6-6, 280 pound offensive lineman from Chaparral High in Parker, Colo., who visited Auburn in March.

Cassanova McKinzy, an Auburn commitment from Woodlawn High, is one of the top in-state prospects expected to attend. He is rated as the nation's No. 6 middle linebacker prospect and has four stars.

Another standout in the Birmingham area, JaViere Mitchell from state champion Leeds, is expected to visit. He played with current Auburn freshman Jonathon Rose who enrolled at AU in January.

Offensive lineman Patrick Miller from Dwyer High in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is expected for a return visit. He is rated a four-star tackle.

Zeke Pike, a five-star prospect announced earlier this spring he is headed to play his college football at Auburn. He is rated as the No. 3 QB in the country by
