Also taking the time to make some visits, including to Oregon for The Opening, Alexander said at the moment he's just enjoying the ride.
"It has been fun," he said. "Everything has kind of cooled down. I know it's about to pick back up during the season. Before you know it, it will be signing day. I'm just taking everything slow and easy right now."
His most recent trip came last week as his Oxford team participated in the National Select Seven-On-Seven Tournament in Hoover. While the tournament was won by Daphne, home of Auburn commitment T.J. Yeldon, Alexander said it was fun for a team to build experience and camaraderie before the season begins.
"The opportunities to play in seven-on-seven tournaments are real big," Alexander said. "It's mostly just for passing so everybody is working on their passing and defenses. It's going to be really big in a game, especially when we play spread teams."
As a linebacker the summer can tend to be boring at times as your one and only job is to cover a slot receiver or running back in pass coverage. Alexander said for him it's a time to get better as you focus on improving.
"I have been working on my man coverage skills," Alexander said. "I have been concentrating on that and my footwork. That's why I have been so successful in that part of the game this summer. That feels good because it means my hard work is paying off."
With scholarship offers from all over the country, Alexander has narrowed his choices to a Top 10 of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, and USC. Very familiar with Coach Gene Chizik's program at Auburn, Alexader said there's a lot to like about the Tigers.
"Auburn is just a great school," Alexander said. "Coach (Gene) Chizik is just a great coach. It's just a nice play to be. They are about family down there. It's a great atmosphere and they have great facilities. It's just a good school to go to."
Planning to narrow his list to five before his season begins, Alexander said right now he's just enjoying things and taking it easy.
"It feels great," Alexander said. "It's just a blessing to be in this position. I'm just enjoying every bit of it.
"Some people don't have the chance to do this in life," he added. "I'm just enjoying it."
