Tigers Take Three Victories In NCAA Tennis

Auburn players are off to a strong start in singles and doubles at the NCAA Championships.

Athens, Ga.--Rameez Junaid has reached the round of 16 in the singles competition at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.

Junaid, a junior, defeated Ryan Livesay of Tulsa 7-6 (5), 6-3 to advance to the round of 32. He then avenged a regular season loss to Romain Ambert of Mississippi State by winning the match 6-7(5), 6-2, 7-5.

Rameez Junaid is an All-SEC performer and is making a bid for All-America honors.

Junaid is scheduled to play Oliver Maiberger of San Diego State at 10 a.m. CDT on the University of Georgia campus on Friday.

Junaid and sophomore Andy Columbo won their opening round doubles match on Thursday and are in the round of 16. The Tigers polished off Steve Berle and Robert Kowalczyk of Cal 6-3, 6-0. Columbo won the doubles national title last season playing with Mark Kovacs, who was a senior last season.

As a team, the Tigers advanced to the round of 32 where they lost to Ole Miss after defeating Georgia Tech.
