Terps Edge Tigers In NCAA Soccer Tournament

Auburn's soccer season ended on Friday in Oklahoma in a loss to Maryland.

Stillwater, Okla.--Auburn's season came to an end on Friday as the Tigers fell 1-0 to Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

Maryland scored in the 69th minute as Becky Kaplan took a pass from Ashley Grove and scored from six yards out. That advanced the Terps to the Sweet 16 round of the tournament.

"For our four seniors, it's really heart-breaking," Auburn coach Keren Hoppa. "They went to four NCAA tournaments and they won the SEC tournament this year. I anticipate Katy Frierson and Julie King will have a future in soccer at the next level and we look forward to following them.

"I thought it was a really good game," Hoppa said. "I thought both teams were excellent. Congratulations to Maryland for advancing. I thought they were an excellent team and they scored a great goal.

"We didn't finish our opportunities and we certainly had them," Hoppa added. "They were able to finish. That's the difference at this time of the year."

Auburn finished the season with a 15-7-2 record while Maryland improved to 12-5-4.
