Ulric Jones receives SEC offers

Ulric Jones, defensive lineman from Oxford, Ala., has helped the Yellow Jackets reach the Class 6A semi-finals. Oxford travels to Hoover Friday night with the winner of the contest to play for the state championship the following week. Jones has now received his first two offers from SEC schools.

"We had a tough one the other night," Ulric Jones said after a triple overtime win against previously No. 1 ranked Mountain Brook who defeated Hoover earlier in the season. "We were prepared for them. We were just ready.

"We play at Hoover this week. It's going to be a big game. We are ready for it. I know we will be prepared."

Jones will rank as one of the top in-state prospects in the class of 2013.

"I have been verbally offered by Alabama and Auburn," said Jones. "Alabama offered me when I visited for the LSU game. Auburn offered me this weekend. I went down there for their game against Samford."

Jones discussed more of his time on the Plains and his offer from the Tigers.

"The visit to Auburn was pretty normal," he said. "One of the recruiting guys told me coach Chizik wanted to see me in his office. That ended up changing my whole day.

"Coach Chizik talked about the program and the facilities. He asked me if I would like to attend Auburn. He told me he wants to verbally offer me and wants me to seriously consider coming there. I told him I would be proud to.

Jones also discussed the unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa and scholarship offer from the Crimson Tide.

"Coach Saban basically told me the same thing," Jones said. "He told me I was looking good. He told me some things he liked and what I can work on. I went down there with Kwon Alexander.

"I thought the game [LSU] was good. I have never seen that many people at a football game in my whole life. It was an awesome experience.

"I love Alabama. It's a winning program. They have a great atmosphere."

Jones will attend the 'Iron Bowl' at Auburn this weekend.
