From the beginning of the contest, Kentucky never seemed to get into a rhythm. Despite early threes from Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague, Kentucky wasn't able to loosen up the Auburn zone, employed by former John Calipari assistant Tony Barbee.
Auburn's Rob Chubb and Kenny Gabriel were able to get on the glass, giving a rebounding edge to Auburn for the majority of the contest. Kentucky struggled from the field and also had problems stopping Auburn from scoring inside, where the Tigers dominated in the first half.
But Kentucky persevered and the Wildcat talent ultimately overwhelmed Auburn.
Timely baskets from Marquis Teague and Terrence Jones kept Kentucky early in the second half. Also steady blocked shots and some easy baskets from Anthony Davis maintained the Wildcat lead until two of Kentucky's upperclassmen were able to put the game away.
Back-to-back three pointers by senior Darius Miller and Lamb wound up putting the game away late. Kentucky punctuated the victory with a big lob dunk by Anthony Davis as Lamb tossed the pass to the 6-foot-11 freshman.
Kentucky was led in scoring by Davis and his 14 points and six rebounds. Lamb also had 14 points for the Cats. Auburn was lead by Rob Chubb's 14 points and eight boards.
