Milton High Junior Gets Offer From the Tigers

A football prospect to watch for the 2013 signee class talks about his junior day visit to Auburn.

Alpharetta, Ga.--Auburn is the first SEC football program to offer a scholarship to Carl Lawson and the Milton High School junior tells Inside the Auburn Tigers that he is very excited about the offer.

The 6-3, 245-pound defensive end from received his offer from head coach Gene Chizik on Saturday at Auburn's first junior day of the year for class of 2013 football prospects.

"When he made the offer Coach Chizik told me that he loved my film and that he would love for me to be a part of the Auburn football team," Lawson said. "It was exciting to get the offer because Auburn is school that I like a lot."

As a junior Lawson was impressive, making 87 tackles with 31 for lost yardage. He made 15 quarterback sacks.

"Every time I visit Auburn I really enjoy it," the defensive end said. "Coach (Mike) Pelton, the defensive line coach, is recruiting me for Auburn and I really like him a lot. He is someone I?really enjoy spending time with."

The offer from the Tigers is the second one. UCLA offered a scholarship earlier this week.

"I am happy I got the offers and expect to get a lot more of them," said the junior, who noted that he is being contacted by a large number of colleges.

That is not surprising considering he followed his strong 2011 season with a standout performance in an all-star game for juniors last month.

Asked what are his best assets on the football field, Lawson said, "I play 100 percent all of the time and have a lot of strength and quickness. I consider myself a good pass rusher."

A prospect who knows his way around a weight room, Lawson said he has bench pressed 420 pounds, done 560 pounds in the squat and 315 in the power clean.

Football is his main sport, but he plans to run track at Milton High this spring. "The 100 is going to be my event," he points out.

Commenting on his Saturday in Auburn at the junior day the defensive end says, "I had a lot of fun like I have had a lot of fun every time I visit there. One of the tour hostesses has shown me around the campus several times and she does a good job. She is a really nice person and she was there again today.

"One of the things I really like about Auburn is the people there," he added. "I like all of the coaches and everybody I have met there. I have an at-home type of feeling when I am there."
