Fortner's Tigers Fall At Mississippi State

The Auburn women's basketball team faded late and lost a big lead on the road.

Starkville, Miss.--Auburn couldn't hold a 15-point lead and fell 62-57 to Mississippi State on Sunday in an SEC women's basketball game.

Auburn dropped to 10-10 overall and 2-5 in the SEC. The home team improved to 13-6 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Junior forward Blanche Alverson led Auburn in scoring with 16 points and sophomore guard Camille Glymph added 12 points for the Tigers.

Mississippi State guard Diamber Johnson led the comeback, scoring 27 points for the home team as she hit 10-17 field goals, including 4-7 treys.

Auburn led most of the game thanks to a 45-32 rebounding edge, but struggled to execute its offense late in the contest.

"We made a lot of mistakes the last seven minutes of the game--unnecessary mistakes I thought," Auburn coach Nell Fortner said. "We just kind of lost our focus a little bit, I guess. It is disappointing."
