Buford Lineman Checks Out Auburn's Junior Day

Josh Cardiello talks about spending time with Auburn's coaches and his love of football.

Buford, Ga.--Class of 2013 offensive line prospect Josh Cardiello is making the rounds to junior days in the southeast. The first one he hit was in Auburn and says he came away liking what he heard and saw.

Cardiello noted that he got to spend time with Auburn offensive line coach Jeff Grimes on Saturday. "I like him a lot," the Buford High junior said. "He is a really good coach and a really good guy. The visit to Auburn went very well. I also got to meet with Coach (Gene) Chizik."

Although he doesn't have a scholarship offer yet, Cardielllo notes that he is getting plenty of attention. He said Georgia, where he plans to visit this weekend, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Clemson, Duke and others are recruiting him.

Previously visiting Auburn twice to check out football games at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2010 and again in 2011, he said his third visit convinced him that the AU program is one he should consider and he plans to return for more trips. "I like Auburn a lot," he said.

Commenting on his junior day visit, the 6-4, 280 lineman said, "I met with Coach Grimes for about a half an hour and then we toured the indoor facility and had lunch there.

"Then we went to the first half of the basketball game and then we went back to the football building and met with our recruiting coordinators so I met with Coach (Brian) VanGorder. After that we took some more tours of the student athletic center."

Buford, a perennial Class AA power in Georgia, reached the state championship game this past season but lost in overtime. Cardiello said the program is well managed by head coach Jess Simpson, a former Auburn football player.

"He is a great guy and he is an even better coach," the lineman said. "His beliefs, and the way he runs things, are top-notch.

Cardiello said he is doing well academically at Buford High and is interested in studying pre-law, or perhaps business, in college. He is in no rush to select a college and plans to visit a large number of schools in the coming months.

Cardiello said he is looking for an offensive line coach like Grimes at Auburn, someone he will enjoy being around during his college years. "I want to play for someone who is definitely a good guy, too, as far as getting along with him and along those lines so that's definitely a positive," he said of his interest in Auburn.

The prospect added that he can tell Grimes likes coaching football. Cardiello said it is a sport he enjoys, too. "I just like the grind and the fact that if you aren't tough enough you aren't going to be able to play. I also like the family aspect of it. That is fun all-around."
