Talented Punter Talks Tigers

Harrison (Ga.) High standout punter Jimmy Hutchinson talks about visiting Auburn and having an offer from the Tigers.

Kennesaw, Ga.—One of the top punters in the country visited the Auburn Tigers on Saturday and said he liked everything about his trip to the Plains. Talented 6-2, 175-pounder Jimmy Hutchinson already has an offer from Auburn and he noted it was nice to see the Tigers in person for the second time in the last month.

"It was my second visit and I loved it," Hutchinson said. "There was nothing to really complain about. I'm definitely thinking about it. I enjoy it there. I'll definitely be back."

Averaging just over 38 yards per punt with 15 downed inside the 20-yard line last season, Hutchinson is rated the number one punter in the nation by both Chris Sailer and Kohl's Kicking. Because of that he's an obvious target for Coach Jay Boulware with Steven Clark heading into his junior year.

"I like him as a person," Hutchinson said of Boulware. "He's a great person and a great coach. I like what he says and what he talks about. I could definitely see myself playing under him as a coach and him getting me to the right places."

Currently holding just an Auburn offer with Ohio State, Purdue, Miami and several more schools showing interest, Hutchinson said getting so much early interest from the Tigers has been big for him.

"I definitely feel blessed," Hutchinson said. "It's a big deal. I feel excited about it. It's good."

Under Gene Chizik Auburn has had a consistent plan to sign kickers and punters so they can have a year to work under older established seniors before the job turns over to them. That was the case with Clark and Cody Parkey when they were brought in and Hutchinson said that's what Boulware said would be the plan for him if he signed with Auburn.

"They told me just to come in and maybe get a few starts in my freshman year under Steven," Hutchinson said. "Then I would be the starting guy my second year. Potentially it could be a redshirt, you just have to see what happens.

"I wouldn't have all the pressure coming in knowing I'm the right and would have to do everything right," he added. "I could watch him and have him show me around and what's going on."

Having been to Auburn twice in the last month and with the Tigers his only offer it's no surprise that Hutchinson has the Tigers high on his list at the moment. Unsure of when he wants to make a decision he did say the sooner the better so he could concentrate on his senior year.

"Auburn is definitely one of my top favorites," Hutchinson said. "I plan on going back for spring practices and maybe another junior day.

"As far as making a decision it depends on what else happens and what I hear from coaches," he added. "I would like to get it done earlier to take the pressure off."
