Impressive Visitors Expected at AU Junior Day

Bluechip football prospects from Alabama and other states are expected to be in Auburn this weekend.

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn's second junior day for Class of 2013 football prospects is expected to attract outstanding players at a variety of positions plus handful of outstanding class of 2014 players.

Offensively, the event on Saturday is expected to include bluechip junior quarterbacks such as football/basketball star Jeremy Johnson from Carver High in Montgomery, one of the best of the best prospects in the state in both sports.

One of the top QB prospects on the West Coast, Hayden Rettig from Cathedral High in Los Angeles, is making the cross country trip to SEC country to see Coach Gene Chizik's Tigers.

Closer to Auburn, a prospect who is verbally committed to play on the West Coast at UCLA, quarterback Eddie Printz from Lassiter High in Marietta, Ga., is expected to check out the Tigers on Saturday. He is from the same high school as Auburn star tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen.

An in-state quarterback coming off of an outstanding season last year, Jason Smith from McGill-Toolen High, is expected to make a return trip to the Plains. Smith is one of the more exciting prospects in Alabama for the 2012 with his combination of athletic ability and leadership skills. He got an offer from the Tigers last month at their first junior day this year.

Another South Alabama QB expected to attend is Quinteris Toppings from Blount High in Prichard.

One of the top quarterbacks in the central Alabama, Cameron Luper from Auburn High, is being recruited by the Tigers as an athlete. The son of Auburn running back coach Curtis Luper is expected to attend junior day.

Running backs look like they will be a priority for the 2013 Auburn class and several outstanding prospects are expected in this weekend.

A three-year starter, Tyshon Dye from Elbert County High in Elberton, Ga., rushed for 1,500-plus yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior. He said he has been clocked at 10.5 seconds in the 100 meters at 6-1, 200 pounds.

Ryan Green from St. Petersburg, Fla., Catholic High rushed for 1,069 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior. He also caught 11 passes for 143 yards. He also made 57 tackles and intercepted two passes last fall. Those kind of numbers with sub 4.5 40 speed in the 40-yard dash have earned him a large number of early scholarship offers.

Jordan Wilkins, a 6-1, 195 running back from St. Benedict at Auburndale School in Cordova, is one of the top prospects in Tennessee for the 2013 class and is expected to check out the Tigers.

Josh Matthews is a 5-10, 215 running back from Decatur High expected to visit. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards last fall. He also attended Auburn's junior day in January.

From Florida, Khalid Thomas from Godby High in Tallahassee is attracting Division I offers. He is expected to check out the Auburn campus on Saturday.

Carl Lawson is a big-play threat for Lassiter High.

Among the out of state prospects expected to visit are: defensive lineman Carl Lawson from Milton, Ga., High; cornerback Shaquille Wiggins from Sandy Creek High in Tyrone, Ga.; defensive tackle Jay Ellison from Harris County High in Hamilton, Ga.; safety Cortez Leonard from Troup County High, LaGrange, Ga.; offensive lineman Richy Klepal from Plant High, Tampa, Fla.; defensive end Naim Mustaffa from Alpharetta, Ga., High; wide receiver Isaiah Jones from Milton, Fla., High; cornerback Kamryn Melton from Dothan High; cornerback Noel Ellis from Edna Karr High in New Orleans; offensive lineman Hunter Bivin from Apollo High in Owensboro, Ky.; defensive end Demarcus Walker from Sandalwood High in Jacksonville, Fla.; highly-regarded kicker Daniel Carlson from The Classical Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.; cornerback Marcus Cox from Dacula, Ga., High and tight end Standish Dobard from Edna Karr High in New Orleans.

Among the in-state prospects expected to visit are the following players: Auburn commitment Dee Liner, a defensive lineman from Muscle Shoals High; wide receiver Tony Whitehead from Paul Bryant High in Cottondale; wide receiver Jarren Johnson from Jackson High; wide receiver Deon Johnson from Spanish Fort High; linebacker Cameron Toney from Huntsville High; offensive lineman Wilson Bell from Blount High in Prichard; cornerback Johnny Cook from Spanish Fort High; wide receiver Carl Lee from McGill-Toolen in Mobile and deep snapper Trevor Morgan from Whitewater High in Fayetteville, Ga., a regular visitor to Auburn the past year.

Class of 2014 prospects expected to visit include defensive back Todd Kelly from the Webb School, Knoxville, Tenn.; linebacker/safety Tre Williams from St. Paul's in Mobile; athlete Elliott Berry from Creekside High, Fairburn, Ga.; athlete Evan Berry from Creekside High in Fairburn, Ga.; running back Demetrius Bond from Blount High in Prichard; running back Darean Burks from Elba High; cornerback Sam Pettway from UMS-Wright in Mobile and offensive lineman Austin Simmons from Alabama Christian in Montgomery.
