Tigers Turn Their Attention to SEC Tournament

The Auburn basketball Tigers are headed to New Orleans to open play on Thursday in the SEC Tournament.

Auburn, Ala.--Tony Barbee and his Tigers are turning their attention to the SEC Basketball Tournament that starts on Thursday in New Orleans with Auburn taking on the Ole Miss Rebels in game three of the four-day event.

Auburn, which evened its record at 15-15 overall and 5-11 in the SEC with a 67-52 victory over LSU on Saturday, heads to New Orleans Arena as the No. 10 seed.

Ole Miss is the No. 7 seed. The Rebels defeated Alabama on Saturday to close the regular season and are 18-12 overall and 8-8 in the SEC.

Auburn defeated Ole Miss 69-68 in double overtime at the Auburn Arena in January and fell 61-54 at Oxford on Feb. 11th.

"We talk about the season being three phases, and we just finished the second one," Barbee said. "You have the non-conference play, which is the first phase, followed by conference play, which is phase two, and now we're in phase three.

"No matter what you did all year long, or no matter the type of team you were, records are thrown out the window," Barbee said. "Crazier things have happened, and we have seen them in other leagues, and we have seen them in this league as recently as Georgia."

Ole Miss heads into the SEC Tournament on a three-game winning streak. Auburn had dropped three straight games before defeating LSU on Senior Day.

"What I know about my team is that we are going to go into New Orleans with a lot of confidence with a little bit of momentum," Barbee said. "We have always talked about getting that win to get ourselves (momentum) going in and what this team has proven all along is that in this league we haven't gotten over the hump and beaten people, but we have played well against everybody in this league. We are going to into the conference tournament, no matter what the matchup, thinking we are going to go in and win the whole thing."
