Ulric Jones visits Tide practice

Ulric Jones, defensive lineman from Oxford, Ala., attended Alabama's first day in full pads on Wednesday.

"I am down in Tuscaloosa right now," said Ulric Jones. "We are just hanging out in the weight room right now. We watched practice earlier. We saw just about everything we needed to see.

"It was their first day in full pads. It was a good practice. I am going to come back down for another practice. They are still going through the learning process. It wasn't too intense. Once they get going it's going to be real good."

Jones talked with several coaches while visiting the defending national champions.

"I talked to coach Cochran, my favorite coach," he said. "I talked to coach Saban and the defensive line coach [Chris Rumph]. Coach Saban was just talking about different things. It was just normal conversation.

"Coach Cochran talked about coming to camp. He gave me his email address. He told me to start coming down here more. He wants me to stay in contact with him."

The 6-foo-6, 250-pound prospect has scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Idaho State, Mississippi State and South Alabama. He is also talking with Georgia Tech and LSU.

Auburn has been the favorite for a while, and other SEC schools are making a move up his list.

"I wouldn't say Auburn is still my overall favorite," Jones said. "They are definitely still up there. I would say they are tied right now with Mississippi State and Alabama. I plan on visiting Auburn this weekend. I plan on going to Mississippi State this summer."

Jones discussed the increased interest in the Tide after the mid-week visit.

"I am just liking how hard they work," he said. "I like the weight room a lot and how they work out down here."
