"It was great," Toney said of the trip to the Plains. "I came down to get to know the coaches pretty good. Everything is still normal. Everything is great.
"It was to get to know the coaches more," he added. "I was going to try to make the practice to see how everything goes. I'll try maybe next week to come down here and catch practice."
While he wasn't in time to watch the Tigers practice for the first time this spring, Toney said he had the opportunity to take a tour of the facilities and then sit down with some one-on-one time with Chizik. He said that was the highlight of the day.
"He said he doesn't want me, he needs me," Toney said of his conversation with Chizik. "He was talking about the defensive line -- he was watching the film today -- and how great they are and what's going to be playing in front of me."
Being recruited as an inside linebacker by the Tigers and several more schools including Tennessee and Mississippi State, Toney is a kid that is still growing. Wearing a size 17 shoe, Toney said he could get to as big as 6-5 before he's done, but hopes he doesn't outgrow the linebacker position.
Now up to seven offers with the Arkansas Razorbacks the latest, Toney said he's taking his time with recruiting and hopes to make several more trips this spring to get a feel for more coaches and schools on his list.
"I'm just taking my time," Toney said. "I want to develop a relationship with each coach at different places. Right now I'm just chilled back, laid back, just taking my time.
"I'm going to try to go to Tennessee next weekend for kind of the same thing, to get to know the coaches more," he added. "I want to spread out and Tennessee is at the top for me also. Tennessee and Auburn are recruiting me hard and so is Mississippi State. It's really great to have a school on you really hard. I've got a lot of options to choose from and Auburn is one of the top schools I like. I would like to experience more."
With no plans to make a decision anytime soon, Toney is just enjoying the experience at the moment and wanting to absorb as much information about his favorites as possible. Closing in on half a dozen visits to Auburn in the last year it's safe to say the big linebacker is getting his fill of the Tigers and liking it.
"It's a great place," he said of Auburn. "I think it's a great place for a student to come and get his education. It's a great atmosphere. The people are great people."
