Over 20 offers

Nebraska is looking at a number of defensive end recruits right now and there will likely be a need for multiple players in the 2012-13 recruiting class at that position. One of the newer offers at the position is Carl Lawson who is being recruited anywhere from a 3-4 outside linebacker to the 4-3 defensive end position. What does he think about Nebraska?

Carl Lawson is getting help from the right people not that he needed a lot of help to begin with, but the Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton OLB/DE says he has been working out for a former professional defensive end and another who played college football at one of the highest levels.

"I just got done doing some O-Line and D-Line workouts," Lawson said. "My one trainer was a defensive end in the NFL and the other trainer used to play DB at Texas A&M. I have been working out a lot this offseason."

This offseason has been about improvement in just a couple of areas. Lawson could step out of what he does at the high school level and move more to a linebacker role in college possibly. That is getting a lot of his focus right now.

"I wanted to improve in my pursuit and my coverage. Everything else was good, but I wanted to focus on those two things. I am being recruited by a lot of school to play the outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

"The schools that are recruiting me if they run a 3-4 like me as that outside linebacker. I would have to rush the quarterback and drop back into coverage. I am being looked at to play the 4-3 defensive end too though."

Lawson thinks that he can do a lot well on the football field. What he also knows is that everything can be better. He says that he is constantly trying to become a better football player.

"I think that my strengths are my pass rushing ability, explosiveness, strength and I want to continue to get better at everything when it comes to football."

Lawson is over 20 offers right now and he says that the people at the school he chooses are keys in his decision process. He will also look at the town that the school is in.

"I have over 20 offers right now. I am looking at the people at the school, the town itself, the coaching staff and the other people associated with the program."

Distance isn't much of a concern for Lawson which is evident based on one of the schools that are currently standing out to him the most. He says that there is a clear leader but says that other schools are still catching his eye.

"One of the schools that I am most interested in right now is UCLA so distance isn't a factor to me. I like talking to the coaches there and one of the first teams to really start recruiting me was UCLA.

"Auburn is at the top of my list though. Tennessee, Ole Miss, USC, Florida, Nebraska, Georgia Tech and some other schools are really standing out to me right now. There are others and I need to start narrowing things down."

The offer from Nebraska is fairly recent. It can be traced back to coming to Lawson after Coach Terry Joseph joined the Nebraska staff. Lawson says that he likes Coach Joseph and they have talked about visiting Nebraska.

"Nebraska offered me recently. Coach Terry Joseph was recruiting me at Tennessee and he recently went to Nebraska. I really like what I have seen about Nebraska and like the facilities at Nebraska a lot.

"I have spoken with Coach Joseph since he went to Nebraska. We have talked about taking a visit up to Nebraska. I haven't set one up to Nebraska, but one could happen this fall potentially."
