Four-Star QB Enjoys Auburn Visit

Four-star QB Kevin Olsen talks about visiting Auburn and what he likes about offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler.

Wayne, NJ—Rated the nation's #9 quarterback prospect and a four-star player by, 6-3, 190 Kevin Olsen of Wayne Hills High is already well versed in the recruiting game after having two older brothers go through the process, but he's still doing his part by visiting many of his favorite schools this spring.

Over the weekend Olsen was in Auburn to check out the Tigers and Coach Gene Chizik. The 2010 national champions and coming off three consecutive top recruiting classes, Auburn is a school that is attractive to recruits across the country and Olsen said after seeing it in person he understands why.

"Obviously playing in the SEC is big," Olsen said. "I feel like it's one of the best conferences in college football. Winning the national championship a couple of years ago, I feel like they've got some great players there and they are doing great things.

"I went down there not knowing a lot," he added. "I knew that Coach (Scot) Loeffler is a great coach and everybody knows about Auburn's national title a couple of years ago. I really got a chance to sit down and talk with Coach Loeffler and Coach Chizik. I got to watch practice and see how they run it and check out the team chemistry and stuff like that."

A coach known for producing quarterbacks, Loeffler's experience and his name precedes him to Auburn. It's one of the reasons why Olsen said he's so interested in the Tigers.

"I think he's a great quarterback coach," Olsen said. "There's not many of them that are great quarterback coaches and he's one of them. I feel like he could develop my skills to bring me to the next level."

One of the highlights of the weekend was getting a verbal offer from the Auburn Tigers. Olsen said that when the time comes to get it in writing he's looking forward to making it official. Now with 25 offers and plenty of choices he said it's just exciting to have a choice in where he wants to go to school.

"I'm going to see South Carolina and I was at Miami on Thursday," Olsen said. "I'm going to see Wisconsin and also possibly Arkansas.

"I think I need to see a couple more schools so I have something to compare it to," he added. "After I get that and go home and sit down I think I'll be able to narrow it down to three or four and go from there."

With several school visits under his belt and still plenty of time left to make his decision, Olsen said he's not in a hurry to get it over with but would like to have it before his senior year. Now that he's had a chance to see Auburn he said they're a team that could be in it until the end for him.

"I really like them," Olsen said. "I think Coach Loeffler is a great coach. They are definitely at the top right now somewhere. I just really need to see the other campuses. It's the SEC. I need to see the Big 10 and see the different leagues and how their practices and coaches plays a factor in all this."
