Auburn Makes a Push for Miami Commitment

Three-star defensive tackle prospect Keith Bryant, a commitment to Miami since Jan. 15, visited Auburn this weekend and came away with strong impressions.

Delray Beach, Fla. – Miami commitment Keith Bryant took a visit to Auburn over the weekend and left commitment to the Hurricanes but with mixed emotions.

"It was a 9.5," Bryant said of his visit to Auburn. "I liked it. Out of all of my visits it was probably my best one."

So far the 6-2 305-pound defensive tackle has visited Miami, Florida State, USF, Florida and Auburn.

"When I walked in it was just beautiful," Bryant said of the visit. "The stadium holds like 90,000-something people. It was just beautiful. I went and sat down with the defensive coordinator (Brian VanGorder). He's from my area, so that's even better. He coached in Boca Raton, and I'm from Delray Beach. Those two schools hold a rivalry with each other."

Bryant attends Atlantic High School in Delray Beach while VanGorder coached at Boca Raton Academy and Boca Raton Community HS early in his coaching career in the 1980s.

"It was great," Bryant added of his visit. "I enjoyed it. They made me feel like I was at home. The food was good – fried chicken, pork chops, all that good stuff. The (spring) practice seemed very organized. When I was watching the D-line go through the drills and stuff it was very organized. It was very serious. There wasn't any laughing, there wasn't any clowning. They were about business. They were about getting it.

He also spent a few minutes with defensive line coach Mike Pelton.

"We talked for about five minutes," Bryant explained. "He was telling me that he loved me. He was telling me that he liked my highlight tapes, he liked me as a person and he wanted me to come here."

Asked about his commitment to Miami, Bryant responded, "My commitment is the same, but I really liked Auburn. To be honest, I really like it."

As far as offers, Bryant said, "I've got offers from 13 schools – Miami, Florida State, USF, West Virginia, UFC, South Carolina, Florida, Louisville, Marshall, a lot of schools."

Bryant is on the verge of getting a committable offer from Auburn.

"Two other coaches offered me, but now it's up to the head coach to make it official," he explained.

Bryant met with head coach Gene Chizik before leaving Auburn.

"He told me he loved my tape too, then he gave me about five hugs," Bryant joked.

When asked what he was looking for in a school, Bryant said, "A school I feel at home. When you get that loud wakeup in the morning, you're happy that you're getting it. You're not made like, ‘Aw, I've got to go to practice.' You're happy that you're doing it. I've got to find a real good home. Schools that I've been going to so far are nice, but Auburn was the best overall. I really liked it. I really enjoyed it. To be honest, I really did.

"I get that feeling at Miami," he added, "but at Auburn there's just something different about the school."
