Williams-Flournoy, who compiled a 143-104 mark in eight seasons at Georgetown, replaces Nell Fortner to become the Tigers sixth women's basketball head coach.
"We are thrilled to welcome Terri Williams-Flournoy into the Auburn Family," said athletic director Jay Jacobs. "Coach Williams-Flourney has achieved success at every level of her basketball career as a player, assistant and head coach. She has an understanding of what it takes to be successful in the Southeastern Conference and brings a tremendous desire to win championships at Auburn. We welcome Terri, her husband Eric and two children to the Auburn family."
Under Williams-Flournoy's direction, the past four seasons at Georgetown have been the most successful stretch in the history of the Hoyas‘ program, with three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. In 2009, the Hoyas made the WNIT quarterfinals. During that four-year run, the Hoyas had a 93-41 record.
Williams-Flournoy will look to bring that success to Auburn starting next season.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to lead the women's basketball program at Auburn," Williams-Flournoy said. "I'm very appreciative to President Jay Gogue, Jay Jacobs and Meredith Jenkins for giving me the chance to guide this team and I am looking forward to joining the Auburn family."
Terri Williams-Flournoy has spent the last eight seasons at head coach at Georgetown.
In the 2011-2012 season, the Hoyas finished with a 23-9 record, finished fourth in the Big East conference and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They finished the regular season ranked 17th in the nation.
In all, Williams-Flournoy has 20 years of coaching experience, including a stint as an assistant coach at Georgia from 1996-2002. The Bulldogs made NCAA Tournament appearances all six seasons she was there.
Williams-Flournoy also had stints as an assistant coach at Southwest Missouri State (2002-2004) and Georgetown (1992-1996). She also served as an assistant coach for Team USA when it won a gold medal in the World University Games in Shenzhen, China in 2011.
